The Free City of Tanyth is the primary setting for Wizards & Warlords weekly games. Situated in the fertile lowlands south of the Dragonspine Mountains, Tanyth is a sprawling city where people from every race, culture, and corner of Tymora gather in search of opportunity.

Merchants, adventurers, nobles, criminals, scholars, mercenaries, and refugees all pass through its gates. Some come seeking wealth. Others seek knowledge, power, redemption, or a fresh start. Whatever their reason, Tanyth offers the chance to build a new life and forge a new reputation.

For many, Tanyth represents freedom. For others, it is simply the place where fortunes are made and lost.

== What Are the Free Cities? ==
The Free Cities are independent city-states that exist beyond the authority of kings, emperors, and great nations. Though each Free City has its own customs, politics, and culture, they all share one common trait: they answer only to themselves.

People from every race and background can be found within their walls, making them centres of trade, intrigue, adventure, and opportunity.

Tanyth is only one of several Free Cities scattered across Tymora. Others exist across the continent, each with their own stories, rulers, and conflicts. As Wizards & Warlords grows and new chapters emerge, players may one day find themselves exploring these distant cities and the lands that surround them.

For now, however, all roads lead to Tanyth.

== Why Is Your Character Here? ==

Every character in Wizards & Warlords has a reason for coming to Tanyth.

Some seek wealth and opportunity. Others are fleeing a troubled past. They may have been sent by a noble house, a religious order, a mercenary company, or an arcane institution. Some arrive searching for glory, others for purpose, and some simply because they have nowhere else to go.

For many, Tanyth offers something their homeland cannot: a chance to start over.

A character may be an exile, an outcast, a dissident, or someone who simply no longer fits within the expectations of their people. A Scion may choose a path their Order forbids. A Forsaken may reject the ideals of their Movement. A Draken may turn away from clan traditions. A Human noble may abandon their title. Whatever the reason, Tanyth provides a place where old loyalties and old rivalries matter less than they do elsewhere.

This is one of the few places in Tymora where people who would normally be enemies can find themselves working side by side.

Within their homelands, a Seeker of Forgiveness and a Seeker of Vengeance may never willingly stand together. A Scion and a Forsaken may view one another with suspicion or resentment. Rival clans, cultures, faiths, and factions may carry centuries of conflict between them.

Yet in Tanyth, survival, ambition, and opportunity often outweigh old grudges.

Characters are free to maintain those rivalries, prejudices, and disagreements if they wish, but they are equally free to set them aside in pursuit of their own goals. Temporary alliances, uneasy partnerships, and unlikely friendships are common throughout the city.

What matters most is not who you were before arriving in Tanyth, but who you choose to become once you are here.

A celebrated knight from Valendor may be a hero in their homeland, but in Tanyth they are simply another newcomer seeking opportunity. A feared warlord, a respected scholar, or a renowned hunter may find that their reputation means little beyond the borders of their own people.

In Tanyth, respect is not inherited. It is earned.

Your actions within the city determine how others see you, what opportunities become available, and what legacy your character ultimately leaves behind.

Tanyth is a city of opportunity, ambition, and endless competition.

Its streets are filled with merchants, travellers, adventurers, nobles, priests, criminals, scholars, and opportunists from every culture in the known world. Ancient rivalries, political disputes, commercial interests, and personal ambitions all collide within the city's walls.

Power in Tanyth is rarely held openly. Wealth, influence, favours, and reputation often matter more than titles or birthright. Alliances are formed and broken daily, and yesterday's ally may become tomorrow's rival.

For those willing to navigate its dangers, Tanyth offers possibilities that cannot be found anywhere else.

Life in Tanyth is defined by ambition.

Characters seek to build their reputation, earn wealth, forge alliances, uncover secrets, gain influence, and leave their mark upon the city. Some dream of founding great organisations. Others seek forgotten knowledge, political power, religious influence, or personal glory.

Every victory helps establish your place within the city. Every failure carries consequences.

Whether your goal is fame, fortune, power, redemption, or adventure, Tanyth provides the opportunity to pursue it.

== Tanyth and Weekly Games ==
From an out-of-character perspective, Tanyth serves as the central hub for Wizards & Warlords weekly games.

Characters are assumed to return to the city between adventures, allowing players from different races, backgrounds, and groups to regularly interact. This creates a shared setting where stories can develop over time while still allowing characters to participate in a wide variety of adventures.

Most weekly games represent missions, conflicts, opportunities, or events occurring in and around Tanyth, helping shape the city's ongoing story.

== Beyond Tanyth ==
While Tanyth serves as the home base for weekly games, adventures are not limited to the city itself.

Through the Arcane Federation's vast Library Portal Network, expeditions can travel across Tymora to distant kingdoms, ancient ruins, forgotten battlefields, and dangerous frontiers.

Weekend events, campaigns, and special adventures often take place far from Tanyth. Characters travel to these locations, pursue their objectives, and eventually return to the city with new stories, rewards, allies, and enemies.
